| Food consumption patterns have received considerable attention lately, especially changes in red meat consumption. This article examines and analyzes changes in meat consumption patterns in a southern state. Differences are reported based on demographics and consumer expressed preferences. The results reaffirm the negative role of health concerns and fat on red meat consumption and the positive influence on poultry and seafood. The findings agree with related other studies and suggest that further research into the changing meat consumption patterns is warranted. |

| This paper analyzes the determinants of variation across industries in levels of intra-industry trade (IIT) for a sample of 36 U.S. processed food and beverage industries in 1987, previous studies of intra-industry trade having focused on industry characteristics in the manufacturing sectors. The determinants predicted by IIT theory are measures of product differentiation, economies of scale, and imperfect competition; the results of this analysis indicate that IIT variation across the food and beverage industries is positively related to product differentiation, U.S. total trade, similarity of tariff barriers among trade partners, and economies of scope, but negatively related to industry concentration. |

| This paper is concerned with determining the nature of and the relationships between movements in a number of New South Wales pig and pork price series. Spectral and cross-spectral methods are applied to some ten series differentiated by type of pig and market level. Results indicate that over the long term there are in general strong correlations between the various price pairings examined, but that in the shorter-run, price changes are not well reflected throughout the pig market. The role of imperfect information is noted as a major contributor to this observed short-run price independence. |

| The study presents an analysis of the coordination between the cassava's producers and the cassava's processors industry located in the west of State of Parana (Brazil). In a few years this chain became dynamics because of many factors, such as the institutional that is the most important one. | This article discusses the application of a quadratic programming model to the bond and note participation decision of a Cooperative Farm Credit Bank. The model generates an efficient frontier of bond and note portfolios from which a bank can choose. The composition of these portfolios depends upon the expected cost and variance-covariance of cost for the bond and note activities, debt needs, and the debt policy constraints of a bank. The results indicate that the interest rate risk of various bond and note issues should be considered when making debt participation decisions. |

| University agricultural economics programs were surveyed to assess the changes of the past decade. Undergraduate enrollments increased significantly while graduate enrollments were unchanged on average. Overall, agricultural economics departments became much larger relative to the average size of colleges of agriculture. Despite some changes in expectations concerning future growth areas, most programs appear to have been successful in meeting students' demands. |

| The nature of indemnities and reliance on futures price averaging during two distinct time intervals throughout the production year imply Crop Revenue Coverage (CRC) insurance behaves like an exotic put option. Treating this type of insurance as a derivative security, an analytical model is developed and an algorithm for solving the model to place a lower bound on insurance premiums is presented. Monte Carlo simulation, taking into account the path-dependent nature of an Asian-type option, is then used to determine lower-bound estimates for insurance premiums on corn gross revenue under specified price and yield distributions. |

| The Common Agricultural Policy increases European poultry production costs, prohibits imports, increases domestic prices, and subsidizes exports. This policy has displaced some U.S. exports. However, the net impact in the U.S. has been quite modest, even assuming poultry is homogeneous, independent of source country. Costs to U.S. producers are almost entirely offset by gains to U.S. consumers. Effects in the U.S. are even smaller when imperfect substitutability between poultry from different countries is accounted for. A retaliatory U.S. export subsidy would have more dramatic effects in U.S. markets. |

| The point of interest in this work is the dynamics of the small property through a filière analysis, identifying the internal and external relationships by the aggregation of value in each chain, besides calculating its contribution to the total value aggregation. Seeking to obtaining results, a case study was carried out and an input-product matrix was structured, using production values of a small property (12 ha). | McCartney rose is a range management problem on 500,000 acres of rangeland in Texas. Roller chopping followed by burning is an effective method of improving infested rangeland. However, uncertainty associated with implementing effective burns adversely affects economic feasibility of the treatment sequence. Discrete stochastic programming is used to determine optimal burning schedules under uncertainty. | Scherer's industrial organization model is modified to characterize the grain marketing system. The modified model identifies the important relationships between economic characteristics and the type of grain facilities found in three states; Alabama, Illinois, and Ohio. Multivariate linear discriminate analysis is used to identify the important basic supply, demand, and transportation variables within and among these states.
